When I visit restaurants and coffee shops I judge them by a number of things. Obviously, the service, food, cleanliness, atmosphere, and the amount and variety of coloring crayons provided are important in rating a restaurant or food service. However, there is one more thing. The bathroom. Now, before you jump to conclusions and write off Takara, hear me out. Takara has AMAZING food. Great Japanese Food and great service. I also have no doubt that their cleanliness standards are very high. However, I would not recommend going to Takara if you require eating while in the restroom. Thats all I’m going to say about that.

Like I said earlier, their food is great. Their Sushi is top notch and I am always blessed with very kind servers. If you judge Japanese restaurants by their Miso like I do, you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is definitely as old school Japanese as you will find in Coeur d Alene. They even have the little rooms, with the cusion seats that require the removal of your shoes. If you dont know what I am talking about then just make sure you ask for one if you go there.

Takara is located on Lakeside Ave right just north of 3rd avenue. Its the hard to miss big white Japanese looking structure.

Fishermans Market

Friday, August 29th, 2008

For years Coeur d Alene, Idaho lived in misery. For years we trudged through life, having to spend long hours traveling all the way to Seattle and back to get good seafood. Scientists like Al Gore even believe that most of the Global Warming crisis has been attributed to people traveling from North Idaho, to Seattle Washington in Gas Guzzling SUV’s. That all ended less than a year ago when Fishermans Market on Kathleen in Coeur d Alene opened up.

Fishermans Market ( one of my personal favorite places to eat ) has loads and loads of fresh fish that they are willing to give away to anyone with green paper bills. Fish and Chips never tasted better. In fact, I dont even think that Fish and Chips tasted better in Seattle. Of course, I might have just forgotten what fish and chips was like in Seattle since I cannot afford to drive there anymore. Anyways, back to the fish and chips at Fishermans Market. When you go to Fishermans Market for Fish and Chips, you get your choice of at least 10 different types of fish, clams and oysters. Then you get to choose from 3 types of coleslaw and then you get to choose 2 kinds of tarter sauce, of which, there are at least 10 to choose from.

What do I recommend? Everything is good. I have had every kind of fish and chips at Fishermans Market, and they are all amazing. Even their salmon fish and chips is moist and ready to eat. Not dried out like Skippers salmon used to be.

Want something besides regular fish and chips? You got it! Fishermans Market also has several amazing entrees that they rotate throughout the week. Entrees like Ahi Steaks, Fish Taco’s, plates full of oysters, plates full of clams and so much more.

Is Sushi more your flavor? Fishermans Market openend a sushi bar a few months ago with truly amazing sushi served by a real life sushi chef. Because Fishermans Market is constantly bringing in really fresh fish, their sushi is very good. They have a good assortment of Nigiri, Sashimi and Rolls to choose from.

We give Fishermans Market a thumbs up. Thank you Fishermans Market for stopping Global Warming. Thank you.

Java on Sherman

There is a little Coffee Shop in downtown Coeur d Alene called Java. Java is located on 4th and Sherman Ave, just a few blocks from the CDA Resort. Java is a destination for travelers and local residents alike. Aside from its rugged atmosphere full of long hair dreaded hippies (not to be confused with long “dreaded” hair hippies…wait, which one is which? We mean the non-offensive one.) and raggae music, Java has a secret formula. Secret formula you ask? Yes, secret formula. The secret formula, that people travel all over the world to partake in is THE BOWL OF SOUL. This drink will leave your tummy feeling warm, and your taste buds satisfied. The bowl of soul, which is especially good on cold winter nights, is comprised of coffee, mexican chocolate, and a few other cool ingredients and spices. In fact, if you tell them that the Bowl of Soul is for “here”, they will even serve it to you in a bowl.

Java also has a tasty breakfast and lunch menu and cool art on the bathroom walls. Half the time, you will even be greeted with a friendly face ( at the counter, hopefully not in the bathroom ).
